So, after a day or two since setting up the aquarium, the cloudiness of the water mostly disappeared and the colour of the water has been the same since (my guess is that the ‘good bacteria’ solution is the culprit). I bought a small water plant to make the tadpoles feel more at home, and I also got a piece of wood suitable for underwater deco. The processing of the wood leaves some kind of residue, so the log is now soaking in water to get rid of whatever it is that makes water look like weak tea.
The snails are quite active, and today I saw they were especially active: two of them were mating and it seems to have taken at least a couple of hours (who knows when they started!). They left behind what must be eggs. I had seen a patch with those ‘bubbles’ before but didn’t realise what it was. Note that the photos may not be in chronological order:
I don’t know what species they are. Possibly bladder snail? One of them looks like maybe it could be a glutinous snail but those are said to be endangered, and I am not sure whether it is a glutinous layer we are seeing over the shell, or whether this is part of the soft body of the other snail … I took another photo and this is what he looks like:
I will keep an eye on the ‘egg patches’ hoping to see baby snails soon. I am worried they may compete with the tadpoles for food but then wondered whether tadpoles eat baby snails? I guess we will find out soon enough.
The snails are super cute as they move along the glass doing what I imagine is feed:
And let’s not forget about ‘spiral snail’. He’s on his own so can’t mate. I am considering going back to the river to find him some same-species companions:
And finally what started all this: the tadpoles. I think I have eight or nine, all seem to be doing well:
